Potential Makes The Difference

Potential really makes a difference. The word “Potential” is actually an adjective and a noun but today’s post is focused on potential as a noun. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, potential is a chance or possibility that something will exist in the future. It is also defined as a quality that something has that can be developed to make it better. When someone is described as being one with potential, then that person is someone who has a certain ability that can be developed to help that person and others.

Having the potential for something or to do something is very important because it means that you have a shot at being the best at that particular thing. It is not enough to just have potential. When you plant a seed and you do not nurture it, there is absolutely no way it is going to grow. This also applies to potential; if you do not take time to nurture yourself and make yourself better, you will not become better. It certainly does not work like magic.

If you are good at something then love it and dedicate your time to being better at whatever that may be. You might think that there are others who are also good at the same thing but that should not stop you. Take writing, for instance, there are a whole lot of writers in the world and though I am not the best at what I do, I am certainly going to make myself better. Do not let the top-notch people in your field discourage you. They should rather be a huge source of motivation for you. Read about them, find out what kept them going, find out their successes and their failures then you could use their experiences in their journey to being who they are now to help you become a better person and hopefully become better than they are.

When you are finally able to get to where you want to be, please do not stop there. Keep aiming higher, find someone with potential and help him or her get to the top. Everyone has the potential to do something great, just find yours and run with it. Do not let anyone convince you that you do not have the potential to do anything mind-blowing and awesome. No matter how little you think your potential may be, please keep in mind that you can get better.

Finally, I leave you with the wise words of Henry Ford “There is no man living who isn't capable of doing more than he thinks he can do.”
