THE FINISH LINE

Hi there!!!

It almost seems like AsktheArthur vanished off the surface of the earth but that’s far from the truth. School has been quite tiring as it is most of the time but it seems to have come with some extra vengeance this semester regardless, WE’RE GONNA GET THIS DEGREE. Thankfully, this is my last year as an undergrad and this brings me to the topic “THE FINISH LINE”

In all aspects of our lives, there are points that we describe as the finish line. My finish line as a student would be to finally graduate with a good class but it doesn’t end there does it? From the very first year in the university, my journey in school has been focused on one aim; to graduate with a good class and that’s great and all but what happens next?

In my opinion, there’s never really a finish line because it’s always “Let’s move on to the next thing after achieving a major milestone”. Our perceived finish lines are just starting points for other ventures.

I’ve heard people talk about “The Ghanaian Dream”; a dream that sufficiently shapes and represents the aspirations of Ghanaians. My personal “Ghanaian Dream” would basically involve having a steady income at a job I love, making sure my family is well catered for, and having a nice place to call home, and someone special to live life with. If that doesn’t work out, then it’s out of this country for me😂. This is probably what I hope to attain after schooling and working for a few years hence it’s my Finish Line, right? Right?

Wrong?! After getting everything you want, I can bet that there will still be a part of you that does not agree that this is your finish line. There will always be a new venture, a new experience that will only make your perceived finish line seem like the starting point.

Instead of calling these points in our lives Finish Lines, I propose a new term for them: “The Midpoint or Semi-midpoint”. They will serve as stages in our lives where we rest and prepare for the next venture and the next venture till we finally reach the Finish Line which may or may not be death.

As it has already been stated by yours truly, our perceived finish lines are just starting points for other ventures. This is just my opinion, you can argue about it😉

This post was prepared on the 1st of May 2022, a day set aside for all workers hence from AsktheArthur to all workers who will come across this, Ayekoo and we love very much. May your ‘Midpoints’ in life be a starting point for great and exceptional adventures.

To every student and most importantly all final year students reading this, you’ve got this. The degree we’re working for is a starting point for a lot of things; some good and others bad so brace yourself.

XOXO,

Sylvia Aba Arthur
